Su Cruickshank

Entertainer
31/8/1946 – 8/12/2009

Su Cruickshank was a bubbly entertainer, determined to enjoy every minute of her chance at life. Su had been an Australia Day Ambassador since the inception and has worked in a variety of entertrainment areas.

Su had roles in many movies including playing 'Young Einstein's' Mother in the movie of the same name.  She often appeared on Bert Newton and The Morning shows and even wrote a book!  Su also gave talks at local community centres and R.S.L's around the nation, sharing her zest for life. She knows first hand the challenges we face, and is an inspiration to many.

Su once shared something of her own experiences:

For some reason I seem to be the shoulder for a lot of my friends who suffer from depression and similar syndromes. I unfortunately suffer from chronic pain from Arthritis and Gout and have to fight against the constant attack on my body and soul.

There are so many of us out here with daily battles, it is comforting knowing that we are not alone, I suspect there are more of us than the able bodied.

I am lucky that I am blessed with a keen sense of humour and work as an entertainer, therefore I am forced to 'carry on' and work at lifting the hearts of audiences and in doing so lifting mine.  I have found that making someone else laugh is my way out of the perpetuating cycle of pain, if not a bit manic at times………I bless my inherited craziness.

I protect the child in me fiercely and retain the right not to take myself seriously, my favourite quote is….'A man's greatness can be judged by his willingness to be kind'……and that means to yourself as well.
